This page covers the terms of use for charitychannel.com and its privacy practices, along with the terms governing Project Aardvark, the free teaching app that accompanies Holding Fire. Everything is written in plain language. If something here is unclear, the contact form is the right place to ask.

Website Terms of Use

CharityChannel.com is published by CharityChannel Press, an imprint of CharityChannel LLC. By using this site, visitors agree to the following terms.

All content on charitychannel.com, including text, images, video, and design, is the copyrighted property of CharityChannel LLC unless otherwise noted. Visitors may read, share links, and quote brief excerpts with attribution. Reproducing substantial portions of any page without written permission is not permitted.

The open letter A Person, Not a Machine is meant to be shared widely. You may share it, quote it, and reproduce it in full, unaltered, with attribution to its authors and a link to charitychannel.com/open-letter.

The Human-Centered AI Framework Operating Specification, published at charitychannel.com/framework, carries its own license and trademark terms in Part IV of that page, and those terms govern it.

CharityChannel Press reserves the right to update these terms at any time. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

Privacy Policy

CharityChannel Press collects only the information visitors provide voluntarily: what you enter when you sign the open letter, when you enter Project Aardvark, or when you write through the contact form.

Signing the open letter. When you sign, we ask for your name, title, organization, and email address, and we send a message to that address asking you to confirm your signature. A person reviews every confirmed signature before it appears. Once approved, your name, title, and organization are published on the letter’s wall of signers and may appear among the names on the home page; your email address is never published. Signature records are kept with Cloudflare, which hosts this site, and the confirmation message is sent through Resend. If you tick the box asking for updates on the letter’s progress, your name, organization, and address are added to a MailerLite list used for that purpose only, and every message includes an unsubscribe link that works immediately. To have your name taken off the wall, or your record deleted, use the contact form.

Project Aardvark. To enter the app, we ask for your first name and email address, and optionally your last name and organization. Your first name is there so Aardie can address you by it. Your address is added to a MailerLite list, after you confirm it by email, used to let you know occasionally about changes and improvements to Project Aardvark; every message includes an unsubscribe link. There are no accounts or passwords. The notes and edits you make in a practice session, and your conversation with Aardie, stay in your own browser and are cleared when you close it; they are not kept on our servers. Your browser remembers only your first name and the practice world you last used, so you are not asked again. Each message you send to Aardie, together with the practice donor records it refers to, goes to the AI provider whose model answers as Aardie, to generate the reply, under that provider’s own terms and privacy policy. Please do not enter real donor information.

Book purchases. Orders placed directly through charitychannel.com are processed by ThriveCart (checkout) and fulfilled by Lulu Direct (printing and shipping). CharityChannel Press does not store credit card numbers or payment details. Payment processing is handled entirely by ThriveCart’s payment processor (Stripe). Purchases made through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or other retailers are governed by those retailers’ privacy policies.

The contact form. Messages sent through the contact form are delivered to CharityChannel Press by email and used only to reply to you.

Email. Our email lists are kept in MailerLite and used only for the purpose you signed up for. Subscriber lists are never sold, rented, or shared with third parties.

The film. The film on the home page plays from YouTube in its privacy-enhanced mode, which sets no cookies until you press play. Once it plays, YouTube’s terms and Google’s privacy policy apply.

Cookies and analytics. This site uses only the cookies necessary for it to work. Cloudflare, which serves the site, provides privacy-first analytics that count visits without cookies and without following anyone across the web. The site uses no advertising cookies or tracking pixels.

Forms and abuse checks. The forms on this site are protected against automated abuse by a challenge service (Cloudflare Turnstile) that may process your IP address and browser signals to tell people from bots.

Data requests. To request a copy of any personal data CharityChannel Press holds, or to request its deletion, use the contact form.

Project Aardvark — Terms of Use

Project Aardvark is a free teaching companion to Holding Fire by Stephen Nill: a web app at charitychannel.com/aardvark in which a development officer practices the Human-Centered AI Framework and personalized philanthropy against fictitious donors, coached by Aardie, an AI coach.

Permitted uses. Project Aardvark may be used freely for learning and exploration alongside the book, and in classroom, workshop, or training settings where participants are learning the methodology. Links to Project Aardvark may be shared freely with colleagues, students, and workshop participants.

Restrictions. Project Aardvark is a teaching tool, not a production system. It should not be used for managing real donor data or real fundraising operations. Please do not enter real donor information. The app, its practice worlds and donor records, and Aardie’s coaching may not be copied, resold, or offered as a standalone product or service, and access may not be automated or shared in ways that get around the app’s fair-use limits. The copyright notice and attribution to CharityChannel Press may not be removed or altered.

Commercial and consulting use. Consultants, trainers, and other professionals may use Project Aardvark in client engagements when that use is in connection with the book and its methodology. Project Aardvark itself may not be sold or licensed as part of a commercial offering. For questions about specific uses, contact CharityChannel Press through the contact form.

Availability. Project Aardvark is offered free of charge and as is. CharityChannel Press may limit, change, or withdraw it at any time, and limits the number of new sign-ups from one network in a day.

Disclaimer. Project Aardvark is provided for educational purposes only. Aardie’s coaching is generated by an AI model and is not a substitute for professional fundraising advice, legal counsel, tax advice, or compliance guidance; any figures it offers are illustrations, not calculations to rely on. CharityChannel Press and CharityChannel LLC make no warranties, express or implied, regarding its fitness for any particular purpose. All practice donor data is entirely fictional. Any resemblance to real persons or organizations is coincidental.
