Overview
Advancing your career in fundraising
Latest News
Fundraising has recently become accepted as not only a profession but as a “hot career.” Even with the need for a more professional approach to fundraising and the sheer numbers of people entering this profession there are still many nonprofits, and many individuals who do not see fundraising as a profession, and even many who still view fundraising with a “tin cup” mentality.
Development is one of the highest turnover jobs in the nonprofit world. Why? Many development officers find it difficult to succeed at their job because their organizations have a weak philanthropic culture; therefore they move on to an organization where they believe they will have more chance to succeed. Can professional fundraisers work from within their organizations to build the philanthropic culture and make their jobs more satisfying? What does it take to create a philanthropic culture in your organization? The development officer must learn the keys to working within their organization to build a philanthropic culture that will encourage philanthropy, increase fundraising effectiveness, and result in job satisfaction.
I was inspired to write my book on the career of fundraising by those who served as my own personal Muse, and am now forming this group to provide others with a source of inspiration and guidance and sometimes a shoulder to lean on. I invite you all to contribute your personal success stories, frustrations with your development career and questions that other Muses will be inspired to answer. And I ask those of you who are the seasoned professionals to share your wisdom with the "newbiwes."
