  • Julie Boll I am not familiar with Research grants at a Higher Education institution. On a very basic level, how are the funds used? We have a faculty member interested in educational research. The grant requires an institutional affiliation to be the fiscal agent. Are the funds simply cycled through the institution and used to pay the faculty member and graduate assistants directly? Is this paid as a course release or stipend? The primary expense is going to be time, with some basic supply costs. Are there any other costs that should be considered?   • Julie Boll Does anyone have a grant policy for faculty and staff members who submit grants? We need a way to approve and track all grants submitted outside our office and I'm not sure the best way to do this. Advice or examples greatly appreciated!       Let me put some things together for you and I will email you the information tomorrow or Wednesday. I'll have to putll from a few "locations" on my hard drive. And you're correct...you need two forms! I have learned that the hard way. Trust me the pre-approval form will save you countless hours of working on a proposal that their dean won't approve, and the second saves you when the say "I didn't agree to do THAT in the proposal that I wanted." :-)
