How do you deal with a board member that gives a big check but is not only disrespectful of others on the board as well as the executive director and staff but drives them all crazy with his focus on minutia as well? That's the question raised by a board that wants to know if its marriage to a controlling, disrespectful director/donor can be saved or if it's even worth trying to do so. This article provides some steps to try before resorting to a divorce.

Our AFP Chapter has started a project called Ask A Pro. Several "senior" members of the chapter (that's experience...not just age) have agreed to participate in this project. Members submit questions related to their work which are answered by one or more of the "Pros." From time to time I'll submit our column, which appears in our monthly online newsletter. If you have additional comments or want to expand on the response given, please do.

CharityChannel, now in its twentieth year, has just rolled out its latest professional group designed to provide discussions and collaborations by colleagues anywhere in the world who are raising funds from the USA on behalf of their NGOs, and for USA colleagues who are raising funds on behalf of non-USA NGOs. Discussions are conducted in English.

I am pleased to report that the latest book from CharityChannel Press, You and Your Nonprofit: Practical Advice and Tips from the CharityChannel Professional Community is almost ready for the printer. At 500 pages, and with 43 contributors, 15 members of the peer review team, and two hard-working editors, this has been an example of CharityChannel at its finest.

Beginning today, CharityChannel is a fully member-driven professional community. For example, members now have the ability to create their own professional groups, whether they be public, semi-public, or private. These groups may be organized around any organizing principle so long as there is a demonstrable nexus to the third sector. Groups must be of a professional nature. Groups have a number of important tools, among the most important of them being the discussion forms. On CharityChannel, one no longer joins a forum; one joins a professional group.
