Working as a consultant -- especially as a sole practitioner -- takes ego. Consulting requires a solid confidence that you have answers -- or know how to find them. Consulting means you're willing to put a price on your expertise -- whether by the hour or by the project. And consulting demands -- for the most part -- going it alone, without a company or superiors to back-stop you professionally or financially.
