To make good decisions, board members need to be able to ask the right questions at the right time and know whether the answers received are sufficient. Purchasing insurance is no different from any other decision, but because of the complex nature of insurance policies, sometimes boards are afraid to ask probing questions because they may appear naïve. But, that should not deter a good board member. The time to ask questions about insurance coverage is

If you are on the board of a large organization, a few key questions asked of the management should be sufficient, but for smaller “working” boards, your questions will need to be more detailed.
