Grant Proposal Basics Contributed by: Joyce LuhrsWednesday, May 12, 2010 (3 years 2 days ago) A proposal requesting a specific grant can be the most complicated or the easiest document to complete. The key is to understand the funder’s requirements thoroughly before sitting down to write the proposal. These are some basic rules that will guide any organization that contemplates preparing a proposal. ______
Use Public Relations to Attract Donors and Increase Grant Support Contributed by: Joyce LuhrsWednesday, July 29, 2009 (3 years 289 days ago) Nonprofit organizations frequently tell me they need more public relations or plain old PR. Unfortunately, many do not fully understand what PR is or how it can help their organizations reach current supporters, attract new funders, and interest prospective donors. ______
Hear Yea. Hear Yea. Publicize a Grant Award Contributed by: Joyce LuhrsWednesday, May 24, 2006 (6 years 356 days ago) How can an organization's grant awards get media coverage? Think about the decisions made in a newsroom. What types of stories do local newspapers, television stations, radio programs and other media outlets in the area cover? By reviewing these different venues first and taking a serious look at what gets covered and when, an organization can increase its visibility in the community, create name recognition, draw attention to its mission, keep its name in front of current funders, and may even attract the eye of prospective funders. ______
The Grant Application Primer Contributed by: Joyce LuhrsWednesday, May 17, 2006 (6 years 363 days ago) From our earliest memories in school, we heard "read the directions first!" Every time I start reading an application, including a grant-related one, these words ring again and again. Whether applying for a foundation, corporate, government, or community grant award as a nonprofit organization, an association with a different tax status, an individual, or a business, I always keep these rules and application "how-tos" in mind. ______
A "Go To" List for the Arts Contributed by: Joyce LuhrsWednesday, May 03, 2006 (7 years 12 days ago) A lack of time and looming deadlines seem to be go hand in hand. Multi-tasking is a way of life, and short cuts are a necessity. Whether the tasks involve gathering information for a proposal, developing content for collateral materials, creating press materials, preparing a presentation, staying current on request for proposal announcements, or working as a journalist to write articles and columns for national publications, a handy list of arts resources is always at my finger tips. Some of my favorite "go-to" resources about the arts appear on the World Wide Web and in publications. Here are a few of them.
