Life and work are not separate acts in Morocco and especially not for Peace Corps volunteers.

Setting Up For and Evaluating Success
Setting up for and evaluating success will determine your longevity as a telecommuter. Though taking a digital photo in place of faxing or scanning was a pretty good improvisation and worked, I definitely needed a better solution in my offsite work office. Developing a work plan that essentially dissects all of your job functions and creates a road map for completing each of those functions is the best way to ensure success.

Telecommuting is a 21st Century Possibility – Part 3 Contributed by:
Jenifer McEnerySunday, September 06, 2009 (3 years 251 days ago)
As part of my proposal and negotiations to telecommute, I assured my supervisor (and others) that my arrangement would not interfere with work. This is a key factor for most organizations when considering a proposal to telecommute; but, it was especially important for my organization, as it didn’t have a telecommuting policy. Complicating matters, there was no precedent to guide my organization. Specifically, no other employee had tried this full-time — much less while working overseas.

Does Telecommuting make sense for you?
What you should consider before proposing to telecommute?
Telecommuting isn’t the same as freelancing. Unlike freelancers, telecommuters work for an organization and not for themselves. Therefore, there are different expectations regarding where, when, and how you work.

Telecommuting is a 21st Century Possibility - Part 1 Contributed by:
Jenifer McEneryWednesday, August 26, 2009 (3 years 262 days ago)
Living abroad had long been a goal of mine and my husband. So when he came to me with a proposal to teach English in Budapest for six months, I jumped. (I mean I literally jumped!) I loved my work and, after seven years with my organization, was in a good position with exciting projects. Taking a six-month leave of absence would mean at best losing the benefits associated with my tenure and at worst mean risking the loss of my position.
It seemed as if I would have to choose between my career and fulfilling a personal commitment to my husband and myself.

Cold Call Phobia Contributed by:
Jenifer McEneryWednesday, November 02, 2005 (7 years 195 days ago)
Though there are similarities, fundraising is not the same as telemarketing even if you are essentially calling strangers to ask for money. Sure, I still get nervous and my throat tightens, but I am making calls to foundation professionals whose job priority is to hear what I have to offer and, if it is the best opportunity for meeting their organizational objectives, give away money. I never have to call during family or dinner time....

Qualifications and Skills Desired in a Grant Writer Contributed by:
Jenifer McEneryWednesday, June 01, 2005 (7 years 349 days ago)
Grant writing offers endless opportunities to learn a little bit about a lot of stuff and demands qualifications and skills beyond writing well and enjoying the process -- although these are still very important.

Getting Back in Touch with Lapsed Foundation Donors Contributed by:
Jenifer McEneryWednesday, March 23, 2005 (8 years 54 days ago)
In my pursuit to reengage lapsed foundation donors, I have found that research is imperative. My first step toward getting a foundation back on board is to research how they've changed, and — especially — why they gave to the college in the first place.

Stewardship - Going Beyond the Funding Report Contributed by:
Jenifer McEneryWednesday, December 08, 2004 (8 years 159 days ago)
I had great intentions of writing a piece that focused solely on going beyond the funding report to foundations and making ongoing and creative stewardship a part of your foundation program. I will get to that, but I also think it is extremely important to point out that there is a limit to stewarding foundation, and really any, donors.

Communicating Solicitations with Colleagues (aka: Avoiding Over-solicitation) Contributed by:
Jenifer McEneryTuesday, August 31, 2004 (8 years 258 days ago)
Everybody likes to do his or her own thing. I really don't know if this describes your organization, but it clearly describes the culture of organizations with which I have worked, volunteered, or somehow come into contact. In these organizations, there is no structured effort in place to benefit the organization as a whole and each department within ends up competing for political or financial influence.

Staying on Top of the Latest News - Research Beyond Google Contributed by:
Jenifer McEneryTuesday, March 02, 2004 (9 years 75 days ago)
Search engines like Google, Yahoo, or Dogpile, are great research tools. Unfortunately, unlike books or magazine resources in a traditional library, web pages continue to change even after they are initially published by their authors and indexed by search engines...
