GO-AWAY-MONEY IS NOT A MAJOR GIFT, No Matter the Size of the Gift Contributed by:

In the first issue of MGR, we suggested that, no matter its size, unless a gift met certain parameters, it wasn't "major." We emphasized the requirement that the process that obtained the gift had to be based on a plan/strategy that included face-to-face cultivation and solicitation components, and that the gift had to significantly help in attaining fundraising goals.

The vast majority of Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs) go through a birth-and-growth process that is pretty much the same, no matter the locale or service being provided. And, because of those similarities, most experience the phenomenon known as "Founder's Syndrome" -- a label normally used to refer to a pattern of negative or undesirable behavior on the part of the founder(s) of a NPO.

The ethics of fundraising require that an organization be able to justify its request for support -- that it must have proceeded from a strategic planning and budgeting process that determined just how much money will be needed to implement/continue/expand the programs that will advance its mission.
