About Me
Founded in 2003 by Barbara L. Krasne and Judith J. Plows, KrasnePlows is a boutique management consulting firm specializing in mergers and partnerships, planning and restructuring and leadership transitions. We help our nonprofit and foundation clients make critical choices to serve their communities better, remain financially sustainable, maximize resources, and achieve greater impact than they thought possible. KrasnePlows offers a unique combination of executive perspective, results-orientation and objective viewpoint amassed from more than three decades in the nonprofit and for-profit sectors.
Having sat on both sides of the boardroom table, we understand what it means to serve on a board, or report to a board, whether as a senior executive or outside consultant, and incorporate that experience into a more pragmatic, practical approach to the issues. Our board service has ranged from small community based social service organizations to national agencies and prominent academic institutions.

It’s All About CASH (Part 2) – What Your Trustees Can Do Contributed by: Barbara KrasneWednesday, November 10, 2010 (2 years 186 days ago) The Great Recession has added to trustees’ pressure to know more about their agency’s financial health, partner with their executive director to address the economic realities, and increase their “give and get.” Good boards do these things as a matter of course. ______
It's All About CASH (Part 1) Contributed by: Barbara KrasneWednesday, October 27, 2010 (2 years 200 days ago) This is the first of two issues that describe what happens when nonprofits have limited cash today. More importantly, we will provide tools and suggestions for how two key players — nonprofit executives and board members — can constructively support quality programs in an environment where resources are always in short supply. ______
Navigating the Recession: Options and Opportunities Contributed by: Barbara KrasneWednesday, April 23, 2008 (5 years 22 days ago) There has been a lot of press lately about the coming economic downturn. They may not even realize they are bound legally to carry out certain obligations. This lack of understanding is what has gotten boards into trouble, even mentioned unfavorably in the press. In this article we demystify this critical role and give you the context for why the fiduciary role is so important. ______
The Special Role of Nonprofit Board Members (Part 1) Contributed by: Barbara KrasneThursday, September 15, 2005 (7 years 243 days ago) You hear a lot of talk about nonprofit board members' role and responsibilities, often driven by a spate of scandals -- misuse of donors' money, inappropriate loans to executives, exorbitant salaries for senior management, or failure to address sizeable deficits at some of the best-known and most respected organizations around the country. The real need is to instill a clearer and deeper sense of what it means to be a board member.
