How can an organization's grant awards get media coverage? Think about the decisions made in a newsroom. What types of stories do local newspapers, television stations, radio programs and other media outlets in the area cover? By reviewing these different venues first and taking a serious look at what gets covered and when, an organization can increase its visibility in the community, create name recognition, draw attention to its mission, keep its name in front of current funders, and may even attract the eye of prospective funders.

From our earliest memories in school, we heard "read the directions first!" Every time I start reading an application, including a grant-related one, these words ring again and again. Whether applying for a foundation, corporate, government, or community grant award as a nonprofit organization, an association with a different tax status, an individual, or a business, I always keep these rules and application "how-tos" in mind.

A lack of time and looming deadlines seem to be go hand in hand. Multi-tasking is a way of life, and short cuts are a necessity. Whether the tasks involve gathering information for a proposal, developing content for collateral materials, creating press materials, preparing a presentation, staying current on request for proposal announcements, or working as a journalist to write articles and columns for national publications, a handy list of arts resources is always at my finger tips. Some of my favorite "go-to" resources about the arts appear on the World Wide Web and in publications. Here are a few of them.

CharityChannel members who have been admitted to the WE REVIEW Contributors Panel are eligible to receive recently-published books from a variety of publishers (and some self-publishers) to review. Reviews are not limited to books published by CharityChannel Press, the publishing project of the CharityChannel professional community. If you are interested in reviewing books, you are welcome to apply. Note that, even though WE REVIEW has been publishing reviews for over a decade, it has recently been reorganized and re-launched. We took the opportunity to remove prior reviews, since our focus is on newly published books.
