About Me
Dwight Downs is Associate Development Director at Lakeshore Foundation in Birmingham, Alabama.
Lakeshore Foundation is a non-profit organization that enables people with physical disabilities and chronic health conditions to lead healthy, active, and independent lives through physical activity, sport, recreation and research. Dwight currently manages grant and major gift proposal development, individual and organizational prospect research, and the gift database.
Prior to joining Lakeshore, Dwight led the creation of exhibits and education programs for the new McWane Science Center in Birmingham; before that, he was Director of Exhibit and Program Development for the St. Louis Science Center. In a quarter-century of non-profit work, Dwight has survived three major organizational expansions, five capital campaigns, and grant deadlines for proposals to the National Science Foundation, , EPA, NEH, NIH, IMLS, CDC, Departments of Education, Energy and Commerce, Kresge Foundation, American Honda Foundation, and many other local and national corporate and foundation grant providers. He is currently treasurer of the Alabama Chapter of the American Association of Grant Professionals.
Dwight spends his spare time with his wife, six children, native wildflowers, vegetable garden, woodworking, sustainable energy and rainwater harvesting projects, and old book collection.
