About Me
I am an active member of Grant Professionals Association and currently serve as the GPA National Board Vice President. I am also a GPC.
I am employed by the City of Mesa as their Grant Coordinator.
Previously, I worked at Chicanos Por La Causa where I was instrumental in increasing Early Childhood Development program funding from $6 million to over $15 million. I was the lead grant writing on the CPLC Early Head Start proposal, which won an additional $600,000 in funding for the organization. In 2010, I wrote a proposal for Early Learning and Mentor Coaching that won $223,000 in federal funding.
Additionally, I have participated on multiple committees and task forces, including Strategic Planning at the program, department and corporate levels, Development Communication. I serve as the GPA Board Liaison for the Publications and Social Media committees.
I have also worked as a grant consultant and have served as a grants reviewer at the foundation, city, state and federal levels and have presented at numerous conferences.
In my "spare" time, I write fiction. My recently published novels include The Healer’s Legacy (YA/Crossover Fantasy, 2012) and The Nelig Stones (Middle-Grade Fantasy, 2013).

LEADING WITH CARE: How Women Around the World are Inspiring Businesses, Empowering Communities, and Creating Opportunity Review by: Sharon SkinnerMonday, January 02, 2012 (1 years 132 days ago) When I first began reading this book, it appeared to be a simple collection of good works and success stories pulled from the files of CARE. However, Mary Cantando has actually provided a significant look at the ways that small steps can lead to huge changes in communities across the globe. The focus of the text is on women, which is no accident, as CARE is an organization that works with women around the world to inspire individuals, create opportunities and empower communities. From nomadic tribes in Mali to women’s professional business organizations in North America, there is significant diversity among the women whose stories Cantando has included and the various methods they have employed to make substantial positive changes in the lives and communities in which they work and live.
