About Me
Dr. Zimmerman is a teacher and organizational development, fundraising, evaluation and strategic planning consultant with over thirty years experience in the nonprofit sector. Reid is the Honorary Professor of Practice at Hamline University. At Capella University he serves as a faculty Subject Matter Expert and course developer, and at the University of St. Thomas as adjunct professor. He is a Senior Fellow with the Center for Nonprofit Innovation at the Performance Institute in Arlington, VA. and is also a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) .
He has worked in a variety of capacities and served on several nonprofit boards including the board and executive committee of the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits (MCN).
Formerly the Vice President of Development with the Hazelden Foundation of Center City, MN, Reid was responsible for raising several millions of dollars of annual donations as well as the efficiency, effectiveness, strategic, budgetary, and personnel issues of the division. He has also served as an Executive Director and Director of Development for several other organizations in Minnesota.
Reid has authored Grantwriting 101: It's Not a Mission Impossible!! (2001) Contributed to Charity Channel's "You and Your Nonprofit (2011) is currently working on another book for Charity Channel Press entitled: "The Seven Deadly Sayings of Nonprofit Leaders," Dr. Zimmerman also served as a member of the editorial committee for MCN's Principles and Practices of Nonprofit Excellence in 1994 and again in 2005 as well as numerous articles on nonprofit leadership, fundraising and evaluation.
Reid works and volunteers as a respected trainer, seminar leader, speaker and facilitator. He is member of the Board of Evaluators for the MN Council on Quality and an Organizational Self-Assessment Facilitator with the Drucker Foundation.
Dr. Zimmerman holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Development, with an emphasis on Nonprofit Change and Effectiveness through The Union Institute and University in Cincinnati, Ohio. His prior education includes undergraduate degrees in Sociology/Psychology (B.A.) and Secondary Education (B.S.), a Master of Divinity degree (M.Div.) and additional graduate course work in nonprofit administration and quality process improvement.
Reid and his wife, Dr. Laura Zimmerman, live near Pine City, MN with their three daughters.
