In my experience working with Boards I have a fair idea of what they are looking for in the ideal board member. And I think many Boards – especially those of small/midsize organizations - would be better off if they moved from fantasy to reality when it comes to Boards and fundraising. Fundraising ability is always the top skill sought after. There is only one problem with this as a serious goal. People who have proven fundraising skill usually fall into one of these categories:

Having a board recruitment event gives Boards and Executive Directors a chance to work together on this important responsibility. Every Board needs to be active in bringing in new members. There are whole books written on recruitment. The focus for this article is a sample process for planning and hosting a successful board recruitment event.
