Locating Funds for Libraries Contributed by:

At my first proposal writing course, I was told that obtaining grant funds for libraries would not be easy… I discovered that this was a fairly accurate prediction. In fact, I have often thought that it would be easier to write proposals for one agency with a specific focus, clear cut needs, and with proposal writing that occurred on a regular cycle. Libraries are a bit different — we have a variety of needs in diverse subject areas, from programming to equipment to collections, and many in between. However, over time I discovered that funders for library needs can indeed be found and this piece offers some possibilities. Keep in mind that I work in an academic library, but this list can apply to various types of libraries.
