About Me
For more than 30 years, Jeff Steele has been a trusted advisor to prominent families and individuals, helping to facilitate over $2¾ billion in charitable gifts. In 1977, he created Merrill Lynch's first philanthropic services program, and founded the Philanthropy Planning Center Inc. (now Philanthropy Planning Center, LLC), with a client list that included two former Secretaries of the Treasury, a Nobel laureate, business and political leaders, members of the Forbes 400, family offices, family foundations, small business owners, sports figures, entertainers and other celebrities, nonprofit organizations of virtually every description, banks, and insurance companies.
Jeff directed the Anti-Defamation League Foundation from 1982 to 1988, was President of the Brooklyn Public Library Foundation from 1988 to 1991, and also served in senior executive positions at CARE, the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center, the Leukemia Society of America, the ASPCA, the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, and the Long Island Alzheimer's Foundation.
Jeff chaired the Charitable Estate Planning Council of Long Island (NY) for eight years, and is currently a member of the Professional Advisors' Circle of Columbia University Medical Center, the Planned Giving Advisory Council of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, and the Professional Advisory Committee of the Long Island Community Foundation.
A prolific author and popular speaker, consultant and college lecturer, Jeff is a nationally-recognized authority on the tax aspects of charitable giving, and consults for charitable organizations throughout the country. He has appeared on radio and television, wrote a syndicated personal finance column for 12 years, and earned professional certification in financial planning, charitable gift planning and fundraising management.
Since the sale of his financial planning practice to a private bank in September of 2005, Jeff has been under contract to the bank, and has also been assisting charities in the advertising and direct-response marketing of tax-planned charitable gifts. His advertising appears in such periodicals as Money and Worth magazines, and in major newspapers.
