One of the best things about being a consultant is that we can walk away from our problems. A colleague actually said that to me. What do you mean, "We can walk away"? Well, when there's a problem or we make a mistake, it doesn't affect us so much. It's not our organization. We can go on to the next job.

...It's inevitable. If you volunteer your time for your favorite organization, somebody there is going to ask you what you do for a living.
Tell them at your peril. The words "fund raising consultant" make their eyes as big as saucers as their heads fill with grand hopes for new revenue....
