About Me
Helga Tan-Fellows is the founder of Fellows Design Group, a small company formed by a group of professionals passionate about the environment and focused on promoting renewable energy. Ms. Tan-Fellows has spent the last year conducting research with the support of local utility and private companies, in preparation for the pilot implementation of Photovolataic (PV) Systems in the 4th quarter of 2011. This project aims to install 3 to 5 PV systems to generate electricity. Fellows Design Group is committed to furthering use of renewable energy sources; primarily in education and nonprofit environments, while simultaneously using it as a curriculum opportunity within the educational system.
With more than 15 years of global experience in engineering, project management and business management for leading international corporations, she has played a pivotal role in the success of the development and launch of multiple products and projects.
Ms. Tan-Fellows began her career at Allergan, leading teams of 70 employees to manufacture high-quality surgical products. Helga was rapidly promoted to positions of increased responsibility, as Senior Quality Assurance Engineer, Senior Product Engineer and ultimately to Global Director of Product, Labeling and Packaging Specifications. As she rose through the ranks of the organization Ms. Tan-Fellows gained extensive experience in testing and validation, project management, corporate operations, new product development and launch support. In global management roles, Helga held full responsibility for the design, management and implementation of the labeling and packaging specifications to produce more than 50 surgical and pharmaceutical products. In this capacity, she reduced department turnaround time by 50%, improved packaging quality 100% and saved more than half a million dollars by bringing contracted work in-house. In addition, Ms. Tan-Fellows identified organizational system need; gained approval from executive team and then led the successful, $50M, worldwide implementation of SAP throughout Operations.
In 1999, Helga joined SAP Hong Kong, where she worked as a Project Manager for China Light and Power, (CLP), SAP HK’s largest customer, at the time. Here she managed the design and implementation of a $2M Phase I pilot project; through leadership of a team of fourteen managers and executives from external supplier organizations and within CLP, to deliver the project on time and within budget.
Ms. Tan-Fellows relocated to Japan, and worked for Dainabot, Ltd; a division of Abbott Pharmaceuticals, in 2001; where she rapidly gained trust and credibility. At Dainabot, she planned and led business reengineering efforts across the organization. Before her departure, she secured approval for the implementation of a proposed system that would increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the customer service, IT and procurement departments; establish organizational consistency and eliminate redundancies.
Since her departure from Dainabot, Ms. Tan-Fellows has been volunteering within the community, researching renewable energy and developing plans to leverage her skills and experience to spread renewable energy across the First Coast, and ultimately Florida and Puerto Rico.
Helga earned her Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from University of Puerto Rico and her MBA, with a minor in Information Systems from National University. In addition, Ms. Tan-Fellows received her certificate in Project Management from the University of Villanova and her Professional Project Manager Certification from the Project Management Institute in 2005. She is a dedicated advocate of renewable energy and is a member of FARE; Florida Alliance for Renewable Energy.
