About Me
I currently reside in Montana, and work with Red Feather Development Group, a non-profit building sustainable straw bale homes on the Northern Cheyenne and Hopi Reservations and working with community based organizations on organizational development and community development. A lifelong New Englander(until now), I moved to Montana two years ago, and live in the Gallatin Valley, with views of the mountains in all directions, and my horses in the backyard.
I practiced law in Rhode Island from 1973 to 1999. My work included volunteer representation for a variety of non-profits engaged in environmental work, child welfare issues and women's issues. I was also involved as a board member during those years for a family service agency, a legal services program, a sexual assault victim advocacy program, and several environmental organizations. My efforts included organizational development, advocacy and fundraising.
In 1999, I had the opportunity to leave the practice of law to become the Executive Director for one of those non-profits, an environmental education center and wildlife preserve. It was a lesson in humility, as I had to implement policies, and find the funding for them, that I had shepherded through as former president of the Board of the organization. After 4 and 1/2 years, and two intensive capital campaigns, I left that position to spend a little more time with my younger child while he finished high school. I spent my last two years as a high school mom and New Englander as a grantwriter for a small economically depressed city in southeastern Massachusetts, primarily focusing on education, economic development, andenvironmental initiatives.
When my youngest went off to college, I loaded up a camper van and headed off to Wyoming and Montana with my dog, who now works with me at the housing/community development non-profit in Bozeman( a very dog-friendly little city).I volunteer for some grass roots non-profits in Bozeman, currently assisting them with organizational development and planning issues.
